The HotelStat-RFS places the HVAC system, lights, appliances, etc., in the occupied/unoccupied mode using wireless communication. The system's built-in comfort limits help prevent guests from setting the comfort setpoint to extreme settings, which can waste energy and cause compressor freeze-up, the company says. The system consists of a radio frequency-controlled key card holder, an HVAC temperature control, switch, and accessories such as outlets. After entering the room, the guest places the key card in the card holder; this sends a radio frequency signal throughout the room, activating the radio frequency outlets (thereby turning on lights, TV, etc.) and placing the HotelStat in the occupied mode. The guest removes the card from the holder before leaving, which sends signals to turn off the outlets and place the room in unoccupied mode.
