President Sid Harvey reflected on his company's longevity: "Our company's success is directly attributable to the quality of our employees, most of whom have been with us for years or even decades. Their dedication to our customers makes all the difference in our profitability and growth and in that of our customers. We all eagerly look forward to the challenges that will be faced as we move into next phase of growth and change in our business."
The company was founded by Sidney W. Harvey in 1931. He rented a second-story office in Hempstead, where his inventory consisted of 10 oil burners.
"Mr. Harvey had the foresight to envision that automatic oil heating would overtake coal as the predominant energy source," the company pointed out. "In short order, he also began a business of refurbishing parts for heating equipment. Thus, the unique nature of the business was born."
According to the company, Sid Harvey's is unique among the many OEM manufacturers and distributors in the HVACR industry. "As a wholesale-distributor, Sid Harvey's is further differentiated by offering a diverse product line that crosses several disciplines, including parts and equipment for the heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, and plumbing trades."
Today the company operates 74 branches from Maine to Maryland on the East Coast, plus branches in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions, and a recent acquisition of a four-branch distributor in West Virginia.
Outlets are supplied by a 162,500-square-foot central distribution center in Wilkes Barre, Pa. A new 77,000-square-foot manufacturing plant is being outfitted in Andrews, S.C.
The company said it now carries more than 50,000 SKU items for sale to its 30,000-plus customers. Business programs like C.I.S. (Customized Inventory Solutions) and Employment Solutions helps Sid Harvey's "remove some of the burden off its contractor-owners," the company said.
