• The state of California reports that its energy efficiency practices are still bringing successful results. In June, electricity use was reduced by 12%, officials stated, with peak demand declining by 14%. The numbers, which come from the California Energy Commission (CEC), are adjusted for weather and economic growth.

“Californians are doing a phenomenal job of conserving energy,” Governor Gray Davis commented. “I asked Californians to reduce electricity usage by 10% and they have come through big time.”

The complete report shows that the measured electric reduction was 8.3%; peak demand reduction was measured at 8.8%. Because of the favorable weather that the state had, its weather adjustment alone extended its electric reduction number by more than 2% and demand reduction was boosted by more than 3%.
