ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) released "SHRM Workplace Forecast 2004: A Strategic Outlook." The report identifies the top 10 trends affecting the work environment this year.

According to this forecast, the top HR issues are rising health care costs, focus on domestic safety and security, use of technology to communicate with employees, growing complexity of legal compliance, use of technology to perform transactional HR functions, global security, preparing for retirement/labor shortage, use and development of e-learning, exporting U.S. manufacturing jobs overseas, and the changing definition of family.
