“The Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program is helping thousands of families throughout the country reduce their costs for heating and cooling their homes,” stated Abraham. “With weatherization, these families will save an average of $218 each year. President Bush recommends increased funding for weatherization assistance over the next 10 years, as outlined in his National Energy Policy.”
David Garman, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the DOE, participated in a weatherization site demonstration, which took place at the home of a senior citizen in Burlington, VT. According to the DOE, the elderly man struggles with high fuel bills. The weatherization team demonstrated the diagnostic tests used to identify the most cost-effective energy-efficiency measures such as air sealing and extensive insulation.
