ASHRAE announced that a new user’s manual for its thermal comfort standard provides an overview for new users while also including more detailed information for those more familiar with its requirements. A free online thermal comfort tool is also included.
ASHRAE and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) have signed a partnership agreement to mark the 40th anniversary of their relationship. Meeting in London, the two organizations signed an agreement to implement a range of new initiatives.
ASHRAE announced it is awarding 33 students with $164,000 worth of scholarship funds for the 2016-17 school year. Over the course of 28 years ASHRAE said it has awarded more than $1.78 million to over 360 deserving undergraduate students.
Several changes to a proposed standard to address building energy performance in rating programs are open for public comment. ASHRAE Standard 214P will provide a standardized approach for determining and expressing building energy performance in a rating program.
A proposed joint standard from ASHRAE and ACCA that establishes consistent practices for conducting and reporting energy audits is open for an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) public review. ASHRAE/ACCA Standard 211P, Standard for Commercial Building Energy Audits, is open for public comment until Sept. 19, 2016.
The keynote speakers for the IAQ 2016 Defining Indoor Air Quality: Policy, Standards and Best Practices Conference have been announced. The conference, co-organized by ASHRAE and the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre (AIVC), takes place Sept. 12-14, 2016, in Alexandria, Virginia.
The need for practical building modeling applications along with the need to transform the design approach to a collaborative process from a sequential process will be explored in an upcoming specialty conference organized by ASHRAE.
Johnson Controls has donated $100,000 to ASHRAE Research. The donation will help fund research that supports the development of safety standards regarding the use of mildly flammable, low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants.
The technical program has been set for the ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016: Building Performance Modeling Conference. The conference takes place Aug. 10-12 in Salt Lake City.
