Combined heat and power (CHP), also known as cogeneration, is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat from a single fuel source, such as: natural gas, biomass, biogas, coal, waste heat, or oil. CHP is not a single technology, but an integrated energy system that can be modified depending upon the needs of the end user.

GEM Energy, part of the Rudolph Libbe Group, announced that Bill Alexander has been named president of the company. Alexander has more than 25 years of experience in energy services, most recently with Siemens, Honeywell, FirstEnergy, and Johnson Controls.

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that phrase certainly applies to the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston. All of the TMC institutions share a critical need for reliable cooling, and many of them are supported by the Thermal Energy Corp. (TECO).

The CHP Awards were presented to Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine; Pepco Energy Systems, Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Thermal Energy Corp. (TECO), Houston.

YANMAR America’s Energy Systems division has announced the launch of its new website at www.yanmar-es.com. The company said the new responsive design website, which is designed to work well on any size device, has been built to provide customers with more information and tools.

While cogeneration is still largely an industrial process, the market has significant potential for educational institutions coast to coast.
