This system demonstrates how modern hydronics technology can be used to harmonize the operation of two high-efficiency heat sources — one renewable and the other conventional.

The New York Geothermal Energy Organization (NY-GEO) held its second conference April 19-20 and nearly doubled the attendance of last year’s event. 

Up until recently, sales of air-source heat pumps were on a tear, growing from 1.6 million units in 2009 to 2.3 million units in 2014, according to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). But, in 2015, sales of heat pumps slipped 3.6 percent from the previous year.

The two day event, which was focused on helping dealers strengthen and grow their businesses, featured presentations on WaterFurnace products, marketing tools, training, financing, and more.

As customer interest in geothermal has increased, numerous HVAC contractors have begun offering GHPs as a way to expand their businesses and give their customers another energy-efficient HVAC option. But, while many of these contractors have undergone extensive training and took the time to properly design and install their GHP systems, others may not have been so careful. 

The agreement between Orca Energy and Carrier is part of Carrier’s renewed emphasis on geothermal heating and cooling solutions.
