Emerson Climate Technologies has approved DuPont Opteon® XP40 (R-449A) and XP10 (R-513A) for use in a wide range of its scroll and semi-hermetic compressors. This approval paves the way for the use of Opteon refrigerants in new and existing compressors for a number of refrigeration applications.
Voltage unbalances exceeding more than 2 percent in three-phase systems can cause current unbalance among the windings. These voltage and current unbalances can cause an increase in winding temperature and an overheating problem that can be detrimental to the motor.
TORAD Engineering announced that it has opened the new TORAD Commercial Development Center (TCDC) to support the growing demand from its customer base on the company’s path to commercialization of its spool compressor technology.
The Danfoss Turbocor VTT series of compressors takes the benefits of magnetic bearing technology up into larger capacity ranges where the current Turbocor TT series leaves off. VTT compressors introduce IntraFlow™ technology that enables chiller systems up to 1,000 tons or more to provide improved reliability and increased efficiency.
Danfoss has announced that Daikin Applied is the winner of its fifth annual EnVisioneer of the Year award competition. Daikin Applied is using Danfoss Turbocor variable speed, oil-free, magnetic bearing centrifugal compressors in its water-cooled Magnitude® chillers to help building owners reduce electricity consumption.
Small compressor giant Embraco has unveiled the first oil-free compressor for domestic refrigerators in the world. The firm said it believes the new concept “will revolutionize residential refrigeration, expanding the possibilities in designing new refrigerators — from format to even additional smart features.”
Ray McKenzie and Mac Chaney of Dothan and Madison, Alabama, have developed a new compressor that they claim has the potential to revolutionize the HVAC and refrigeration industries. The unit is said to be up to 50 percent more efficient than conventional equipment, and is also small, lightweight, and quiet.
Emerson Climate Technologies Inc. has announced the release of a new eBook to provide helpful information to HVAC contractors and facility managers on the value and impact of compressor modulation. The publication is titled “Understanding Compressor Modulation in Air Conditioning Applications.”
The U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Green Proving Ground (GPG) program recently evaluated the effect of new, high-efficiency chiller technology on rising energy consumption and costs for space cooling in office buildings by assessing a variable-speed, oil-free centrifugal chiller with magnetic bearings.
