Let’s be honest, white males make up a pretty good chunk of this industry. The problem is white males only make up about 31 percent of the U.S. population. This industry needs to have an outreach beyond these demographics if it hopes to flourish in the future.

Currently, 9.4 million women-owned businesses are operating in the U.S. in 2015 — employing more than 7.9 million people and generating nearly $1.5 trillion in revenue.

The scholarships are available to women working toward a career in the trades, to students studying for a career in the trades, or to frontline female employees at franchise locations for any of Dwyer Group’s service brands.

South Carolina Air Distributors and Armstrong Air recently hosted the first-ever South Carolina All-Women’s Factory Tour and Luncheon. The event, which was held at the Allied Air Enterprises plant in Orangeburg, drew 100 women who work within the offices of contractors across the state.

The Dwyer Group®, a holding company of seven service-based franchise brands, including Aire Serv®, a heating and cooling brand, has announced the recipients of the fall 2014 Women in the Trades Scholarships. 

Maria Blase, president of the HVAC and Transport Solutions Latin America business of Ingersoll Rand, has been announced as a winner of Diversity Journal’s 13th annual Women Worth Watching Award. Blase is among 160 executives chosen for the honor and is featured in Diversity Journal’s September/October issue.

Although women account for only 2 percent of the apprenticeship attendance across the country, the numbers are improving.
