On Dec. 17, 2015, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) finalized new negotiated energy conservation standards for commercial air conditioners, heat pumps, and commercial warm-air furnaces, otherwise known as rooftop units (RTUs).

WASHINGTON — A record number of distributors, wholesalers, and manufacturer’s representatives from across the U.S. took their issues and concerns directly to Capitol Hill during the eighth annual HARDI Congressional Fly-In, held May 24-25 in Washington, D.C.

The effective date of this rule is July 1, 2016. The final rule changes will be mandatory for representations of energy use or efficiency on or after November 28, 2016.

DOE has rescheduled its public meeting regarding the notice of proposed rulemaking for portable air conditioners to Wednesday, July 20, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Washington, District of Columbia. 

The comment period closes August 1, 2016.

DOE has determined that the comments received in response to the direct final rule do not provide a reasonable basis for withdrawing the direct final rule. 

The effective date of this rule is 60 days after publication in the Federal Register. 

DOE is also announcing it will host a public meeting on June 20, 2016.
