The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) issued a joint letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in support of changing the status of certain refrigerants used in liquid chillers under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Johnson Controls announced it has expanded its magnetic-bearing centrifugal chiller line, the York YMC2, to 1,000 tons of cooling (3,500 kW). The larger cooling capacity units address the need for reduced sound, high efficiency, and low maintenance as well as featuring magnetic bearing and oil free technology.

Johnson Controls announced it is enhancing its HFC product lines to be fully compatible with the non-flammable, low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant Opteon™ XP10 (R-513A) manufactured by The Chemours Co. York centrifugal and screw chillers ranging from 125 to 6,000 tons (440 to 21,100 kW) are compatible with R-513A.

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has entered into an agreement to purchase from De’Longhi Industrial S.A. shares representing approximately 74.97 percent of the share capital of DeLclima S.p.A., an Italian company in the commercial air conditioning products business.

XL Catlin and Financial Risk Solutions Inc. have entered an exclusive underwriting agreement to offer Chill-Pro® contractual liability insurance coverage for HVAC contractors in the U.S. Chill-Pro is a national insurance program that provides service agreement coverage for chillers.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) has developed a new series of centrifugal chillers, called the ETI-Z Series, that use a new low-global warming potential (low-GWP) refrigerant, HFO-1233zd(E). The various models in the new series will be progressively launched starting this September.
