Geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) have been around for a long time, but recent technological advances have propelled these systems into a new sphere of efficiency and comfort.
As customer interest in geothermal has increased, numerous HVAC contractors have begun offering GHPs as a way to expand their businesses and give their customers another energy-efficient HVAC option. But, while many of these contractors have undergone extensive training and took the time to properly design and install their GHP systems, others may not have been so careful.
Emerson Climate Technologies asked 1,500 U.S. homeowners about the most important features they consider when purchasing air conditioning and heating systems, as well as what typifies a high degree of satisfaction with their HVAC contractors. They also asked about factors that might prevent someone from buying a new HVAC system if they own an older, more problem-prone system.
The annual awards competition honors the most inventive and original products, systems, and technologies showcased at each year’s AHR Expo in 10 categories. The winning products are selected from numerous entries by a panel of judges consisting of ASHRAE members who evaluated the products based on innovation, application, value to the user, and market impact.
The AHR Expo, which began more than 85 years ago, is held annually in key markets and major cities across the U.S., hosting close to 2,000 exhibitors and crowds of more than 60,000 industry professionals. The event provides a unique forum for the HVACR community to come together and share new products, technologies, and ideas.
With eight tracks, 100 sessions, and more than 300 speakers, the technical program at ASHRAE’s 2016 Winter Conference is bound to impress attending engineers, contractors, manufacturers, and building professionals. The technical program will have a fresh feel with new tracks focused on design-build practices, cutting-edge technologies, and residential systems.
Sales of oil furnaces had been declining precipitously since 2004, but it seems that lower oil prices, local incentives, and pent-up demand may be fueling a small surge in sales.
Making the decision to open another location is no small undertaking and involves finding the right people to staff the new location and doing a lot of research to make sure the new area can support another HVAC business.
Frozen condensate occurs when condensation and exhaust gases generated from the heating process are discharged outside via a vent pipe and freeze in the cold air. If ice continues to build up, the vent pipe can become blocked, causing the furnace to shut down.
