Retrofitting Equipment Refrigerants
I just want to say thank you for all the great information and articles, particularly in the [website] archives, regarding subjects that pertain to retrofitting HCFC HVAC systems to HFC refrigerants. It’s been beyond valuable as our district switches from R-22 to R-407C. We’ve been able to steer clear of the mistake of proprietary blends.

It’s Not Like it Used to Be
I began working in the HVAC industry in the late ’70s, and the attitude [then] was “correct it and move on.” Then, in the past 10 years or so, it seemed as projects were bid with lower margins, which, in my opinion, led to more back charges to make up for budget losses. Guys began carrying cameras, then cell phones, and if a screw was missing, the installation would be halted until there was an agreement as to who was responsible.
Glad to see a better group of techs entering the market.

Improving Gas Mileage
We will probably try the GMC/Chevy Hybrid Van. NYC traffic yields less than 10 mpg with a V8. My Yukon improved over 50 percent with the hybrid, from 12.5 to almost 20 mpg. I’m wondering if anyone has tried the hybrid vans with a heavy pay load?
