Pre-demolition (pre-demo) readings play a critical role in ensuring a smooth transition from old HVAC systems to new installations. These readings help engineers and contractors assess system performance, identify potential issues, and plan demolition and construction phases effectively. However, obtaining accurate pre-demo readings can be challenging, especially when dealing with aging equipment, accessibility constraints, and incomplete maintenance records. This session explores best practices for conducting pre-demo readings in HVAC systems, including planning, coordination with controls contractors, selecting appropriate instruments, troubleshooting common issues, and interpreting circuit setter and pump flow data. Attendees will gain practical insights from a real-world case study involving over 160 VAV hot water coil circuit setter readings and two hot water pumps.
