With the geothermal market enjoying an enormous surge in popularity due to financial incentives and its reputation for sustainability, now is the time for contractors to strike while the iron is hot and add geothermal to their offerings.
Geothermal manufacturers, distributors, and organizations like the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) have stepped up their training efforts to ensure HVACR contractors are installing and servicing geothermal equipment to the highest standard.
As customer interest in geothermal has increased, numerous HVAC contractors have begun offering GHPs as a way to expand their businesses and give their customers another energy-efficient HVAC option. But, while many of these contractors have undergone extensive training and took the time to properly design and install their GHP systems, others may not have been so careful.
The day-long event included a variety of comprehensive, hands-on opportunities for participants to learn about and observe all aspects of a geothermal system — from equipment specification, to loop-field drilling and trenching, to system controls programming.
The geothermal courses focus on educating representatives, distributors, and contractors about how to perform a complete, successful geoexchange installation, from field work to equipment connections.
