AUCKLAND, New Zealand - The Heating, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) SkillTech Academy completed delivery of
a three-day Residential Mechanical Ventilation Installation training program in
New Zealand. SkillTech Academy instructor, Bill Crist, P. Eng, delivered the
training program for Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) Ventilation in New Lynn,
Auckland. Participants in the training included operational managers in
addition to installers and electricians. The course covered the installation
and commissioning of all types of mechanical ventilation systems with a major
focus on systems that include a HRV. Feedback from those who attended the
program was overwhelmingly positive and participants cited the “House As A
System” module of the program to be particularly valuable.
Prior to delivering the training, time was spent in researching
the country’s building practices through meetings with contractors and
regulatory authorities, and tours of both existing homes where ventilation
systems were being installed and new homes at different stages of construction.
According to the association, the regulatory community in New
Zealand appears receptive to further dialogue with HRAI. The country is
interested in learning more about the ventilation component of Canada’s
building codes and the importance of mechanical ventilation in the residential
sector. HRAI anticipates that there will be a need for additional training in
the future.
