WACO, Texas — Dwyer Group, a holding company of 11 service-based franchise brands, awarded four women $1,500 each in 2015 Women in the Trades Scholarships for demonstrating outstanding work experience and passion for their chosen service trades.
“Our Women in the Trades scholarship recipients are an inspiration to us all,” said Dina Dwyer-Owens, co-chair of Dwyer Group. “We are proud of their dedication to succeeding and growing in their chosen service industry jobs. This scholarship offers them the opportunity to break their professional boundaries and pursue lifelong goals across the service trades, and we are excited to be part of that journey.”
Funded by Dwyer Group since 2012, the Women in the Trades (WITT) initiative is one of the most recognizable efforts to educate and promote the hiring of women for traditionally male-dominated roles in the trades industry. The scholarships are available to women working toward a career in the trades, to students studying for a career in the trades, or to frontline female employees at franchise locations for any of Dwyer Group’s service brands.
The fall 2015 WITT recipients are Allison Painchaud, from Vernon, British Columbia, Canada; Lynn Carter, Westport, Massachusetts; Molly Olesky, Wilmington, North Carolina; and Tara Holm, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
“These women set a fantastic example. I think there is so much opportunity for women to succeed in the service industry. More women need to consider this a serious career path,” said Dwyer-Owens. “With the rapid advancement of technology, I look forward to watching their great achievements in the near future with the support of WITT scholarships.”
WITT scholarships are available to women 18 and older who are interested in pursuing a career in the trades. The award covers tuition, books, travel, and/or fees. Funds can be applied to any accredited trade or technical school in the U.S. or Canada for any of seven specialties, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical repair, glass repair and replacement, appliance repair, restoration, painting, landscaping, residential cleaning, or handyman services.
Candidates are evaluated based upon financial need, previous work experience, and their passion for their chosen industry. For more information or to apply visit, http://bit.ly/1NkwTO5.
