The Southern California Scholarship program has opened with the 2019 budget. The program is free — paid for by the California Rate Payers.

To qualify for the scholarship, entrants must work in Southern California. Additionally, they can be enrolled in other scholarship-based training programs from ItsAboutQ.net, however, they are not eligible if they have completed one of those programs already. Participants who were suspended from other ItsAboutQ.net scholarship programs are not eligible.

Two programs are available.

Commercial Refrigeration for HVAC Technicians

In this program, students will compare space temperatures and conventional components of basic a/c systems to those of commercial refrigeration systems. They will examine evaporators, condensers, compressors, metering devices, controls and accessories, and the refrigerants commonly used in commercial refrigeration. The course will review critical commercial refrigeration terminology. At the end of this course, students will so some system troubleshooting, giving them a chance to put their knowledge to work on the nine most common system problems.

Building Automation Systems

This advanced program is designed for HVAC Technicians and others involved in the HVAC industry.  It will begin with the fundamentals of HVAC control systems and move through troubleshooting systems. This program will prepare students with a strong understanding of typical HVAC mechanical systems in a commercial building environment. In turn, the student will gain an understanding of the different types of control systems and concepts used in these commercial buildings. The program discusses electric and electronic control systems used in commercial HVAC systems. Automation systems are discussed in detail, starting with older systems and proceeding to today’s modern web-based systems. The student learns the types and methods of operator interfaces in commercial buildings, as well as the different kinds of BAS inputs and outputs in detail.
