Arnav Deshmukh entered the HVACR industry with a unique background on rocket engine technology, which he developed during his time at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). His experience with rocket engines provided a strong foundation in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, which are crucial for HVACR systems.
With a desire to apply his expertise to a field with a significant environmental impact, Deshmukh joined the team at Energy Recovery, where he has made significant contributions since.
“This move allowed me to focus on sustainable technologies and make a meaningful impact on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in the HVACR industry,” Deshmukh said.
One of Deshmukh’s contributions since joining the team at Energy Recovery is his participation in development and optimization of the PX G1300 pressure exchanger, which has received numerous awards across the HVACR industry.
Deshmukh “created a 1D physics model to define the efficiency and energy recovery capabilities of the PX G1300, and used multi-phase CFD models to optimize its design, helping the PX G1300 reach pre-launch reliability and efficiency milestones.”
Through an online tool for CO2 refrigeration systems developed by Deshmukh, users can estimate the savings provides by the PX G1300 based on their system size, operating conditions, and location.
Deshmukh said hopes to use his skills as an engineer to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to combat the ever-increasing refrigeration needs due to climate change. He’ll aim for leadership positions in the industry to in order build sustainable technologies from the ground up, and then see them successfully deployed in HVACR installation. He also wants to participate in educational and outreach efforts to motivate future engineers in the HVACR and energy efficiency sector.
