Back in high school, Jonatan Portillo Reyes’ parents had just purchased a new home. On the day they moved in, the a/c wasn’t working. Despite their efforts to contact multiple HVACR contractors, no one came to their rescue. It was weeks before a new HVAC system was installed. And while many teenagers take years to realize what they want to with their lives and careers, for this teen, the choice was easy. This entire experience inspired the pursuit of a career in HVAC, with the commitment to providing better service, and making a positive impact on customer’s daily lives.
At a previous job, supervisors recognized Portillo Reyes’ consistent efforts in identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, leading to promotions from the role of a helper to a lead installer. Portillo Reyes’ work on developing energy-efficient installation methods has not only saved customers significant costs but significantly reduced environmental impact. Portillo Reyes also mentors and instructs new HVAC technicians to ensure proper practices in the field.
“I lead by example, consistently demonstrating my passion and positivity,” Portillo Reyes said. “I firmly believe that fostering a strong organizational culture is essential for success.”
On the team at Hagerstown, Portillo Reyes has been recognized by customers for punctuality, professionalism, and ability to provide clear explanations of complex HVAC issues.
Portillo Reyes recognizes that the endeavor of obtaining a master license and opening an HVAC company in the future will require much time and effort, but remains confident in its eventual success and is working toward that goal. Why? “To continuously grow and expand my knowledge in the field. I want to be someone who is unique in the industry and someone others can come to ask questions. My ultimate goal is to build a better future for my family.”
