Enercare Inc., parent company of Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning, announced the retirement of Scott Boxer and the appointment of Scott Boose as president and CEO. Boose has assumed responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership for Service Experts, including growth plans and the continued delivery of great customer experience.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. — LG Electronics USA Air Conditioning Technologies has added two more industry veterans, further enhancing its commercial applied sales and customer experience organizations. Even though the theme, workforce, is not our yearlong focus in Distribution Center, I still find the topic one of unending fascination. It’s not surprising that we have a regular stream of stories that I hope are helpful on this topic.
There is nothing new about distributor compensation issues. As far back as the 1960s, wholesalers have been concerned about innovative approaches to motivating salespeople. The environment back then was different; warehouses were smaller, inside sales were untrained, and phone systems were inefficient.

Total HVACR sales represented by the Top 50 Distributors each year have steadily increased. In 2012, they accounted for more than $10.3 billion (fiscal year 2011); this rose to more than $11.5 billion in 2013, $12.8 billion in 2014, and $13.8 billion in 2015. This year, the top 50 represented $14.8 billion in sales for fiscal 2015.
When I took over this magazine, I was fortunate enough to receive some laudatory comments about my arrival. Note, the comments came from others, and now that we’re approaching my second-year anniversary, I hope they feel the same way.

For the misguided readers who tell me that you actually read my columns, it’s probably occurred to you that I find behavioral economics fascinating. Had this discipline existed when I was an undergraduate, I conceivably could have gone in a different direction. (For those who read the Freakonomics Fellows or Malcolm Gladwell’s books, you understand.)
