To help battle Legionellosis, which includes both Legionnaires’ disease and Pontiac Fever, ASHRAE is currently developing Standard 188P: “Legionellosis: Risk Management for Building Water Systems.” The fourth public review draft of the standard is expected to be approved and made available for public comment soon.
Changes to clarify requirements in a proposed standard to prevent legionellosis associated with building water systems are open for public comment from ASHRAE.
If properly followed, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 188 stands to affect the way water systems are managed in hundreds of thousands of buildings in the United States.
