Andy Potter’s HVAC career began as a service technician while still in high school. After a stint in the U.S Army serving in Viet Nam, he resumed his career in HVAC, eventually becoming a contractor in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. In 1986, he sold his contracting business, moved to Houston, and took a job as an instructor, and he has been an instructor ever since.
During my 50 years in the HVAC trade, I have found that most technicians do not spend time learning about the compressor and the a/c system as much as they should. In their defense, they are simply too busy to take the time once they are out of school.
