Lucas B. Hyman, P.E., LEED AP, is currently president of GEI, a consulting firm he helped found some 20 years ago, which provides district energy (central plants, CHP, TES, distribution systems) and laboratory/building HVAC planning, design, and commissioning services. Hyman began his career at the age of 17 as a power plant operator with the U.S. Navy before obtaining his mechanical engineering degree, and now has more than 30 years of experience with the plan-ning and design of public and private facilities. As a registered professional engineer in eight states, Hyman has had the opportunity to plan and design more than 100 district energy projects to date, and has received numerous ASHRAE project awards, including the Presidential Award of Excellence and the George B. Hightower Technical Achievement Award. Hyman is a vice chair of ASHRAE’s District Energy Cogeneration group, and chair of the thermal storage technical committees.
