Are Your Employees Strong Enough?
I recently got back from a long weekend vacation to Mackinac Island, located in Northern Michigan. It’s one of our state wonders — motor vehicles are prohibited on the island. People get around by bicycle, horse-pulled carriages, or by horseback. I rode both a bike and a horse and, man, did my legs hurt the next day. I couldn’t tell you the last time I was on a bike before that day.
All of this got me thinking about physical requirements for different professions. I believe mine only requires me to lift 30 pounds or something of the sort. But, HVAC technicians have to work in rain, shine, extreme heat, and extreme cold.
So, I’m wondering if HVAC contractors have physical requirements prospective employees must meet on the condition of employment? Do you make them get a physical? How do you handle employees with work restrictions? What is your company policy? Tell us in the comments.
