According to a survey comprised of more than 400 homeowners, there are three key ways in which millennials differ from previous generations in regard to their HVAC purchase decision-making. This type of data has proven to be important in the HVAC industry since as of March 2023, 52% of U.S. millennials own a home. What that also means, is that 52% of Americans aged 28-43 may find themselves in the market for HVAC. The three ways in which millennial homeowners differ from their precious generations are they don’t mind visit fees, they want to see online pricing (and according to the survey, homeowners are far more likely to call a contractor if pricing is listed on their website, which about 80% of the contractors surveyed do not post online pricing whatsoever) and the ‘Amazon effect’ is real – half of the homeowners would like their HVAC contractor or a local facility to carry online accessories. Meanwhile, about a third of contractors actually do offer it or mention it to the homeowner.
