Brian Coffield

Brian Coffield, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, is a Principal and Lead Mechanical Engineer in SmithGroupJJR’s Washington, D.C. office. In this role, he is responsible for mechanical designs for clients such as the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and American University with a focus on higher education projects. His approach to design begins by working with his architectural colleagues to explore passive design strategies to maximize energy savings while minimizing design complexity through techniques such as building orientation, shading, and building envelope optimization. Mr. Coffield believes that taking an integrated design approach and simplifying building systems plays a critical role in creating sustainable, cost effective projects.
